Morioka homers, but Loggers surrender 5-0 lead in loss to Pirates

SPOKANE, Washington – The Puget Sound baseball team could not hold on to a 5-0 lead during its 15-8 loss at Whitworth Sunday afternoon.

The Loggers struck for a run in the first inning when Mason Quinlan singled home Jack Gries, and Puget Sound put up another run in the second inning when Ricardo Barraza scored on an error.

Puget Sound looked to take control when it posted three runs in the third inning. Quinlan and Hunter Riley hit consecutive one-out singles, and a wild pitch allowed both runners to move up a base. Following a walk to Corey Roberts, Jake Briscoe hit an RBI single and Nolan Wiler immediately followed with a two-run hit.

Whitworth answered back with seven runs in the bottom of the third, and it added six more in the fourth.

AJ Morioka hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning – his first of the season.

The Loggers return home to host Whitman for a three-game series, April 13-14.
