Loggers Have Strong Showing At First Day Of WIRA Championships

LAKE NATOMA, Calif. – The Puget Sound crew teams continued their solid 2012 seasons at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Saturday. All four boats that competed on Saturday moved on to the finals.

Both the men's novice 8 and varsity 4 boats made the petite finals of their heats. Both boats also had "exceptional" races, according to head coach Marsa Daniel. The MV4 boat came in second of the petite final with a time of 7:27.9 while the MN8 significantly narrowed the gap between the lead boats of the Petite final with a 6:33.3.

Both of the Loggers WN4 and WV8 boats made tomorrow's grand final heats. The WN4 rowed an 8:31.7 to make the grand final. The WV8 was the lone Division III boat to make the Grand Final with a 7:13.3, significantly improving the Loggers chance for a 10th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships next month.

Both of the women's Grand Finals will be raced tomorrow along the W2V8 heat.
