TACOMA, Washington – Jason Clayton received national recognition, and Collin Heimbach became the fifth Logger to earn Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week following the Puget Sound football team's 28-21 overtime victory against Pacific Lutheran, Sept. 29.
Clayton was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after intercepting the Lutes twice. His second interception came in the end zone during overtime and sealed Puget Sound's victory. A 2017 All-NWC honoree, Clayton is tied for the NWC lead for interceptions with three.
Clayton is the first Logger be named to D3football.com's Team of the Week since Jake Wuesthoff in November 2016.
Heimbach is the fourth consecutive Logger to earn NWC Student-Athlete of the Week for offense. So far this season Puget Sound has swept the honor. Other recipients include AJ Johnson, Jewell Day, and Murdock Rutledge.
Alex Everett was named the NWC Student-Athlete of the Week for special teams following the win at La Verne (Sept. 15).
Heimbach torched the Lutes for 193 receiver yards on 13 catches and three touchdowns. His 435 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns are both second in the NWC. Day is in the league lead for both categories.
Puget Sound is the only NCAA football team with three student-athletes averaging at least 100 receiving yards per game: Day (112.5), Heimbach (108.8), and Johnson (106.3).
The Loggers are on the road Saturday, Oct. 6, against Lewis & Clark. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
