Hodge, Logger Men Lead After Day One Of NWC North Tournament

LAKEWOOD, Wash. - Senior Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.) collected three birdies and an eagle on his way to a two-under 70 to lead all golfers following the first round of the NWC North Tournament at Oakbrook Country Club In Lakewood, Wash. The Logger men are tied for first in the team standings while the Puget Sound women are currently in third place.

Hodge built a three-stroke lead on a two-under performance on the front nine and an eagle on the 445-yard 12th hole made up for a pair of bogeys to keep him even par on the back nine.  Senior Marc Phillips (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) finished with five-over 77 while Riley Conlin (Golden Valley, Minn./Breck) and Greg Kirkpatrick (Longview, Wash./Mark Morris) each carded seven-over 79 as the Loggers shot 305 over the first 18 holes. 

Whitworth used a one-over 73 from Jared Descoteaux to shoot 305 as well to stay tied with Puget Sound for the lead.  Whitman is third with a 19-over 307 while Pacific Lutheran is fourth with a 28-over 316.

On the women's side, the Loggers were led by a 13-over 86 from Maresa Jenson (Whitefish, Mont.) and an 17-over 90 from both Sarah Bicker (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) and Megan Starr (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins).  The Loggers posted a team score of 358 to begin Monday's final round 15 strokes back of first place Whitworth and 11 strokes back of second place Whitman.  Whitman's Taylor Head led all women's golfers, firing an seven-over 80 to hold a two-stroke lead over teammate Caitlin Holland.

Monday's second round is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. at Oakbrook CC in Lakewood, Wash.
