MOSES LAKE, Wash. - Paced by five-over 77's from junior Greg Kirkpatrick (Longview, Wash./Mark Morris) and seniors Marc Phillips (Boise, Idaho/Timberline) and Jordan Hodge (Tucson, Ariz.), the Puget Sound Loggers finished in third place at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic on Sunday at The Links at Moses Pointe in Moses Lake, Wash.
The Loggers, who entered the final round in second place following a 300 on Saturday, ended up shooting 311 on Sunday to switch positions with Linfield in the team standings but still had some solid rounds on the final 18 holes. Kirkpatrick and Phillips each finished eight-over for the tournament to tie for ninth place while dual 77's from Hodge put him tied for 12th with a 10-over 154. After firing a one-over 73 on Saturday, Riley Conlin (Golden Valley, Minn./Breck) struggled on Sunday, firing an 82 to finish 11-over for the tournament and tied for 16th place.
Pacific junior Max Bonk won a playoff to earn medalist honors with a one-under 143 while Whitworth won the team title with a 16-over 592, paced by a one-under 143 from Cameron Whittle. Linfield took second with 602, followed by Puget Sound (611), Pacific (615), Whitman (626), Pacific Lutheran (641), George Fox (642), Willamette (648) and Lewis & Clark (696).
In the Northwest Conference standings through the NWC Fall and Spring Classics, Linfield and Whitworth are tied for first with 15 points each. Pacific and Puget Sound are in a tied for third with 11 points each. George Fox, Pacific Lutheran and Whitman are in a three-way tie for fifth with six points. Willamette is in eighth place with two points while Lewis & Clark is ninth with no points.
Teams receive one point for every team they finish ahead of in the Fall and Spring Classics and two points for every team they finish ahead of in the NWC Championship Tournament, scheduled for April 24-25 at Heron Lakes GC in Portland, Ore.
