TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound men's golf team opened the season with a strong showing at the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational at Spanaway Lake Golf Course in Spanaway, Washington, while the Logger women also competed in the same event.
Led by Ricky Howard's two-day score of 142 (-2), the Logger men tied for second out of six teams with a total score of 603 (+27). Howard shot a 71 on both Saturday and Sunday. Adam Bean tied for 11th after shooting a 77 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday to total 151 (+7) for the weekend.
Howard finished one stroke off from tying the program record for a 36-hole score.
The Loggers tied George Fox while Whitworth won the invitational with a two-day score of 594 (+18).
The Logger women did not score as a team, but Molly Nelson finished in 18th with a two-day score of 181 (94; 87).
The men return to action on Sept. 19 for the St. Martins Invitational at the Olympia Golf and Country Club (Olympia, Washington), while the women compete in the Pacific Invitational starting Sept. 20 (Portland, Oregon).
