Driessen, Loggers stun No. 15 Claremont-M-S, 87-74

CLAREMONT, California – The Puget Sound men's basketball team has plenty to be thankful for this weekend. The Loggers stunned No. 15 Claremont-M-S, 87-74, on the road Saturday night. Puget Sound remains undefeated with a 6-0 record before entering its Northwest Conference schedule next week.

Easton Driessen led the Loggers with 17 points, and Jimmy Wohrer added 16. Stellan Roberts (12 points) and Nate Vieira (10 points) both scored in double figures off the bench.

Puget Sound continued its hot shooting against the Stags (0-4). The sixth time this season, the Loggers' defense forced the opposition into at least 20 turnovers. CMS committed 23 turnovers, whereas Puget Sound had just 12 such miscuses.

One weak spot for the Loggers early this season has been free-throw shooting. Entering Saturday's contest, the Loggers shot under 70 percent from the charity stripe in four of their five games. However, Puget Sound was 18-for-22 (81.8 percent) from the line at CMS.

The Loggers will once against be tested by nationalcaliber teams when they begin their NWC schedule at home next weekend. Puget Sound hosts Whitworth (42 votes, D3hoops.com) on Friday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m. The Loggers then duke it out with No. 1 Whitman on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m.
