Loggers lose their touch in second half at Linfield

MCMINNVILLE, Oregon – Cal Hansen continued to roll, but the Puget Sound men's basketball team lost at Linfield, 85-77, Saturday night.

One night after posting 26 points and 16 rebounds at Pacific, Hansen totaled 20 points and nine rebounds at Linfield (11-2, 4-0 NWC). He shot 9-for-14 from the floor, and added two assists and a steal.

Puget Sound (5-8, 1-3 NWC) held a 10-point lead at halftime, 47—37. Hansen, Stellan Roberts, and Gabriel Chaikin each had nine points through the first 20 minutes. The Loggers shot 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from 3-point range in the opening period, and Puget Sound forced Linfield into nine turnovers.

The script flipped in the second half. The Loggers shot 3-for-14 (21.4 percent) in the second half, and 8-for-28 (28.6 percent) from the floor in the final 20 minutes. The Wildcats did a better job of taking care of the ball in the second half and committed only two turnovers.

Chaikin finished with 15 points, and Roberts tallied 13 points to go along with six rebounds. Jimmy Wohrer netted 12 points to along with five assists.

Puget Sound returns to Memorial Fieldhouse to host Willamette Friday, Jan. 11, at 8 p.m.
