Loggers Outshoot Whitworth But Fall 3-0

TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound men's soccer dropped its third straight contest with a 3-0 loss to Whitworth on Sunday. The Loggers (6-5, 5-4 NWC) outshot the Pirates (9-3-1, 7-2 NWC) 17-12 in the match.

Nate Spangler scored twice for the Bucs. His first goal came in the 11th minute when he used one touch on a pass from the end line to sneak one inside the near post. He scored again in the 57th minute when he bent a shot just inside the far post from the corner of the penalty box.

In the 71st minute, Robby Ubben padded the Pirates lead to 3-0 when he knocked in a rebound to the top shelf.

Terence Blackburn and Andrew White had a couple of good chances on the Loggers end as each put two shots on goal. However, Brian Sherpe made six saves to preserve the Pirates shutout.

Connor LaFerriere also had three shots for the Loggers, including a diving header that missed the near post by inches.

The Loggers will finish up the 2011 season on the road, starting with a trip to Linfield and Willamette next weekend.
