Puget Sound hosts Linfield, Willamette at Baker Stadium

TACOMA, Washington – After putting up 13 goals in its first two home games, the Puget Sound men's soccer team is back at home to begin the 2018 Northwest Conference schedule against Linfield and Willamette this weekend.

Stone cold stunners

Puget Sound upset both Linfield and Willamette towards the end of the 2017 season on East Field. The Wildcats broke a scoreless tie in the 85th minute, but Luke Murdock tied the game with a last-second goal in the 90th minute. Murdock then scored the game-winner in the 104th minute. The following day, the Loggers foiled Willamette's bid to win the NWC crown outright by defeating the Bearcats, 1-0, as Sean Hamel scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute.

 

Happy feet

Puget Sound totaled a dozen goals in a blow-out win against Brooklyn on East Field (Sept. 8). Cale Spence netted the game's first goal in the third minute. Dane Schatz, Lucas Curry, and Luke Murdock each scored two goals.

 

All hail Cale

Early this week Cale Spence received both Logger Club Logger of the Week and NWC Men's Soccer Student-Athlete of the Week for offense. He scored the only goal during the Loggers' 1-0 home win over Northwest Christian (Sept. 7), and also scored the game-winning goal against Brooklyn.

 

I'm Luke (Murdock) And I'm Here To Rescue You

Luke Murdock enters the weekend tied for the Northwest Conference lead in total points with eight. He has three goals and two assists through four games.

 

You Shall Not Pass

Senior goaltender Wren Norwood has been a wall between the posts. His 0.83 GAA ranks third in the NWC.

 

Scouting Linfield (2-2, 0-0 NWC)

Half of the Wildcats' games four games have come against NCAA D-III opponents, including a 1-0 loss against Caltech and a 2-1 win against Whittier. Gerardo Perez leads the Wildcats in scoring with two goals.

 

Scouting Willamette (3-1-1)

The 2017 NWC Co-Champions (Pacific Lutheran) will play at Pacific Lutheran Saturday, before taking on the Loggers Sunday. Nicholas Ballenger is the league's leading scorer entering this weekend, with four goals to his name. Ryan Sato leads the NWC with four assists.
