Loggers topple Whitworth, 4-1, on Senior Day

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's soccer team scored twice within the first two minutes of the game, and the Loggers kept momentum going for a 4-1 win over Whitworth at home during Senior Day.

In the second minute of the game, Puget Sound's (6-5-4, 4-3-2) Luke Murdock scored on a penalty kick. One minute later, a shot by Sean Hamel's was deflected by a Whitworth (4-10-3, 3-6-2 NWC) defender and found the back of the net.

In the 62nd minute, Puget Sound struck for the third time with a goal by Cale Spence from a corner kick played short by Angel Herrera-Flores.

Eleven minutes later, Whitman answered back with a penalty kick goal. However, Dane Schatz tackled a defender and scored a goal on an empty net while the goalie was well out of position in the 79th minute.

Wren Norwood made eight saves during the game. Puget Sound had 10 corner kicks and eight shots on goal.

Before the start of Sunday's game, Puget Sound honored its seven seniors and their loved ones: Wren Norwood, Skye Guegan, Noah Stewart, Stefan Jensen, Sam Gonzalez, Kian Evans, and Ian Hamel.

The Loggers finish the season with three road games, starting at Willamette Saturday, Oct. 27.
