ORANGE, California – The Loggers dropped a pair of games to Chapman (2-2) on Saturday. Puget Sound fell, 9-1, in five innings in its first game of the 2016 season. The team then fell, 6-5, in the second game of the double header.
Erica Gott led the Loggers (0-2) with two doubles and an RBI. Kristi Nagamine recorded 2 RBI and had two hits on the day. Jaci Young, Kayla Andrus, Maggie Larue, Kasey Stern, Mckenna Johnson, and Amber Popovich each recorded a hit.
Chapman 9, Puget Sound 1 (5 innings)
Amber Popovich recorded her first RBI of the 2016 season, but Chapman proved too much for the Loggers.
Kristi Nagamine began the game with a single, but Puget Sound would ultimately strand the runner. Chapman also got their lead-off runner aboard in the first inning, with the Loggers returning the favor and keeping her off the board.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Chapman added three runs in each of the third and fourth innings.
Puget Sound would get one run back in the top of the fifth inning. After McKenna Johnson singled and advanced on a groundout, she was able to come around and score on Popvich's single.
Chapman tacked another run on in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game with a 9-1 score.
Erica Gott (0-1) took the loss for the Loggers. She threw 3.0 innings, allowing seven runs (six earned). Kayla Andrus threw the final 1.1 innings, giving up two runs while striking out two.
Chapman 6, Puget Sound 5
The Loggers' late inning come back fell just short in game two, as the visitors scored three runs in the seventh inning.
Chapman jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Panthers tacked on another run in the second inning when Rinauro came around to score.
The Loggers pulled back to 4-2 in the third inning. Jaci Young ripped a one-out single through the left side. Erica Gott doubled to bring home Young, and then scored herself on an error by the Panther right fielder.
Chapman extended the game back to 6-2 by scoring two runs in the fifth inning.
Puget Sound scored three runs to close the gap in the seventh inning. Nagamine hit a two RBI double, before Gott hit her second double of the game to score Nagamine. With two outs and two runners on base, Both struck out Johnson to end the threat and the game.
Jaci Young (0-1) threw all 6.0 innings, giving up six runs (three earned) while striking out three.
The Loggers will take on La Sierra on Sunday, Feb. 14 in a double header beginning at 11 a.m.
