Johnson's runs batted in not enough, Loggers fall to Bruins

TACOMA, Washington – McKenna Johnson recorded two RBI as the Loggers fell in a pair of games to George Fox on Friday afternoon. Puget Sound lost, 9-3, before falling, 5-1.

Mckenna Johnson led the Loggers (7-14, 1-10 NWC) with two runs batted in. Erica and Jessica Gott each recorded an RBI as well, while Kristi Nagamine and Jessica Shimoda each had a hit. Kayla Andrus had two hits on the day.

George Fox 9, Puget Sound 3

The Loggers jumped on the board first, going up 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Erica Gott got things going, hitting a solo home run over the left field fence. After Kayla Andrus singled, Jessica Gott hit a double to bring her home, and then Mckenna Johnson singled to bring home the third run of the inning.

The Bruins would take the lead back in the third inning, scoring five runs on four hits, while being aided by three Logger errors. George Fox added four runs in the sixth inning, on five hits, to go up 9-3.

Erica Gott (3-4) took the loss for the Loggers. She threw 4.0 innings, allowing five runs (three earned), while striking out five. Jaci Young threw the final 3.0 innings in the circle, giving up four runs, while striking out three.

George Fox 5, Puget Sound 1

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an unearned run.

The two teams remained scoreless for the next four innings, with George Fox getting just three runners on, while the Loggers had one base runner.

In the sixth inning, the Bruins gained some insurance runs, going up 5-0.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Loggers staged a comeback, scoring one run on an RBI single by Johnson. However, the rally proved too little, and the Loggers ultimately fell, 5-1.

Kayla Andrus (1-2) took the loss, giving up five runs (four earned) in 6.0 innings of work. Jaci Young threw a scoreless seventh inning in relief.

The Loggers will next play the final two games against George Fox on Saturday, March 26. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
