PORTLAND, Oregon – Erica Gott hit her fifth home run of the year, but the Puget Sound softball team fell to Lewis & Clark, 5-3, in a make-up game on Friday afternoon.
The Loggers took the lead in the top of the second inning. Johnson led off the inning with a double to center field. Gray doubled to right center field, allowing Johnson to come around and score. The following batter was Young, who hit an RBI single to center, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Puget Sound added another run in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Erica Gott.
Lewis & Clark (15-17, 9-11 NWC) got one run back in the bottom of the fourth inning on a squeeze bunt by Hannah Dal Pra. The Loggers held onto their 3-1 lead until the sixth inning. The Pioneers scored four runs on four hits, overtaking Puget Sound and gaining a 5-3 lead. The Loggers were unable to stage a seventh-inning rally, and fell.
Jaci Young threw the first 4.0 innings, allowing one run while striking out two. Erica Gott (5-7) took the loss for the Loggers. She gave up four runs (three earned) in 2.0 innings pitched.
The Loggers next travel to Linfield for a four-game series. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 9.
