Webster records 3 RBI, Loggers split with Occy

LOS ANGELES, California – The Loggers split their doubleheader with Occidental (2-6) on Sunday. Puget Sound won 2-1 in eight innings, before being edged, 5-4 in the second game.

Kaitlyn Webster led the Loggers (3-3) with three RBI, after going 2-for-6 with two doubles. Amber Popovich (1-for-6) and Jessica Gott (2-for-7) also recorded an RBI. Jaci Young and Erica Gott each had two hits, while Haley Suzuki, Jenna Llamas, and Marissa Oda all registered a hit on the day.

Puget Sound 2, Occidental 1

The Loggers won the first game of the day's doubleheader for the third consecutive day.  

Despite Puget Sound getting a runner on base in four innings, neither team was able to break through in the first seven innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, Amber Popovich hit a double to center field which allowed Mckenna Johnson – placed at second for extra innings – to score. Popovich then came around to score herself on a wild pitch. The Tigers would get one run back in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Loggers' defense held firm to earn the 2-1 victory.

Jaci Young threw the first five innings, allowing four hits. Erica Gott (1-1) earned the victory for the Loggers. She threw the final 3 innings, allowing two hits and one run.

Occidental 5, Puget Sound 4

Kaitlyn Webster had three RBI, to lead the Loggers in the second game.

The Loggers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Jessica Gott picked up a run batted in, while Webster had a 2 RBI double.

The Tigers responded in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runs of their own, to cut the lead to one. Each team scored one run in the third inning, the Loggers' coming on an RBI from Webster when she hit another double.

Occidental took the lead in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on a single from Samantha Yee. The Loggers were unable to muster another run, and settled for a split on the day.

Jessica Gott started the game in the circle for the Loggers. She threw 2.1 innings, giving up three runs. Erica Gott (1-2) took the loss, throwing 3.2 innings, giving up two runs.

The Loggers will next return home to open the Northwest Conference schedule. Puget Sound hosts Willamette in a pair of doubleheaders Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26. The first pitch for both days is scheduled for 12 p.m.
