LA VERNE, California – The Loggers split their doubleheader with Chapman (1-1) on Saturday. Puget Sound won 5-3 in its first game, before falling, 8-0, in five innings, in the night cap.
Four different players – Jaci Young, Erica Gott, Jessica Gott, and Kaitlyn Webster – recorded an RBI for the Loggers (2-2). Amber Popovich had four hits on the day, while both Gotts and Jenna Llamas had two hits. Haley Gray and Young each had one hit.
Puget Sound 5, Chapman 3
Jaci Young hit her first home run of the year in the first game of the day.
The Panthers opened the scoring, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Loggers answered back immediately, scoring in the top of the second inning to tie the game on a Kaitlyn Webster RBI single. Chapman retook the lead, 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning.
After Chapman got one run back, to tie the game to 3-3 in the fourth inning, the Loggers responded with another run of their own the next half inning, and then added to their cushion with a run in the top of the seventh inning on a Young home run.
Jessica Gott (1-0) earned the victory, throwing all 7 innings. She allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits, while striking out four.
Chapman 8, Puget Sound 0 (5 innings)
The Loggers got four runners into scoring position, but were unable to bring any across, as they fell in the night cap.
Chapman jumped on top in the second game of the doubleheader, going ahead 3-0 in the first inning. They would add one run in the both the third and fourth innings. The Panthers extended their lead to 8-0 in the fifth inning, taking the second game to give each team a victory.
Kasey Stern (0-1) took the loss for the Loggers. She threw 4.1 innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits.
