
TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team opens its Northwest Conference slate of games this weekend. The Loggers welcome Willamette for a pair of doubleheaders.

The Loggers (3-3) opened the 2017 season with a six-game trip to Southern California. The team split doubleheaders with Pomona-Pitzer, Chapman, and Occidental. Jaci Young threw a complete game shutout, and 12 scoreless innings over the weekend. The senior also hit a home run. Jessica Gott hit .421 over the six games, with four doubles and three RBI. Erica Gott hit .389, with two doubles and four RBI.
Student-Athlete of the Week
Jaci Young was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing 12 scoreless innings, including a complete game shutout. The senior is the first Logger softball player to earn a Student-Athlete of the Week since Taylor Jones in 2014. She is the first pitcher to earn the honor since April 12, 2011, when assistant coach Auriel Day (then Sperberg) earned the honor.
Scouting the Bearcats (0-2)
Willamette University began the 2017 season by dropping two games to Corban (9-4, 7-2). The team is hitting .163, led by Mallory Asaro, who is 3-5 (.600) on the year, with a double and a home run. Alex Shields also has a home run for the Bearcats. Jade Smith is 0-2 in the circle for Willamette.
