Softball heads to Arizona for five games

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team heads to Arizona for five games during Spring Break this week. The Loggers will play two games on Tuesday and Thursday, and a single game on Wednesday.

Puget Sound's last weekend

The Loggers (6-6, 3-3 NWC) played Lewis & Clark in a doubleheader on Sunday. The games were moved to Curtis High School due to weather. The two teams split the games, with the Pioneers winning the first game, 3-0, and the Loggers winning in the second game, 3-1. Jessica Gott recorded two runs batted in, while Amanda Fehr had the third RBI for Puget Sound. Erica Gott threw 10 innings, earning a complete game victory, while allowing just two runs, and striking out five.

Student-Athlete of the Week

Jessica Gott earned the NWC Player of the Week for her play against Pacific. She hit .583 in the three games, including a three-run home run in extra innings which proved the difference in the first game of the series. Jaci Young was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing 12 scoreless innings, including a complete game shutout, to open the season.  

Logger leaders

Jessica Gott leads the squad with a .436 batting average. The junior has hit four doubles, a triple, and a home run with nine runs batted in. Amber Popovich (.351), Erica Gott (.325), and Jenna Llamas (.303) also are hitting about .300 for the Loggers. Haley Gray, Kaitlyn Webster, and Jaci Young have each hit a home run so far this year in addition to Gott. Jaci Young is 2-2 in the circle, with a 1.98 earned run average in 28.1 innings pitched, and two complete games. Erica Gott is 3-2, throwing 33.2 innings with a 2.50 ERA. Gott has also thrown two complete games, while striking out 18.

Scouting the Pioneers (1-7)

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is located in Platteville, Wisconsin, and the team competes in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The team most recently fell to Dickinson, 4-3, and Suffolk, 8-6. The Pioneers' win came against Augsburg, 8-2. The team is hitting .125 as a squad, with Emily Woodford (.412) leading the way. Woodford has Wisconsin-Platteville's only home run of the year. Rachel Bonnell is 0-3 in the circle with a 5.33 ERA in 21.0 innings pitched. She has struck out 14.

Scouting the Rams (3-1)

Suffolk University is located in Boston, Massachusetts, and the team competes in the Eastern College Athletic Conference. The team has defeated Central (Iowa), Eastern Connecticut State, and Wisconsin-Platteville. The Rams fell to Augsburg, 9-0. The squad is hitting .277 as a group. Devlin Frost is hitting .500 to lead the way for the Rams. Jill Pulek is hitting .385, and has a team-leading four RBI.

Scouting the Auggies (5-3)

Augsburg College is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the team competes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The team most recently fell to Wisconsin-La Crosse, Stevens Institute of Technology, and Wisconsin-Platteville. Katie Parker leads the way for the Auggies with a .476 batting average, with two home runs and 10 RBI. Lauren Hurley (.444) has seven runs batted in, and Brianna Cline (.409), is tied for the team lead with 10 RBI. Samantha Anderson is 3-2 with a 5.12 ERA in 27.1 innings pitched. She has struck out 25 batters, and has thrown four complete games.

Scouting the Panthers (3-2)

Greenville College is located in Greenville, Illinois, and the team competes in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Most recently, the Panthers fell to Eastern Connecticut State. Becca Oldham (.500) has the team's only home run, and also has six runs batted in. Kate Jolliff (.533) has a team-high 10 RBI. Cayla Speaks is 1-0 in the circle with a 3.50 ERA.

Scouting the Warriors (1-2)

Eastern Connecticut State University is located in Willimantic, Connecticut, and the team competes in the Little East Conference. The team most recently defeated Greenville, 12-3, after falling to Wisconsin-La Crosse, and Suffolk. Samantha Bardos is hitting .400 to lead the team, while Rebecca DeFeo has a .333 average. Jacky Arndt has thrown 4.1 scoreless innings for the Warriors.
