TUCSON, Arizona – The Puget Sound softball team swept a pair of games on the final day of a five-game swing in Arizona. The Loggers took down Greenville, 7-2, before defeating Eastern Connecticut State, 11-6, in the second game.
Jaci Young and Erica Gott led the Loggers (10-7) with three runs batted in each. Jessica Gott, Kristi Nagamine, Amanda Fehr, and Mckenna Johnson each recorded two RBI, while Haley Gray chipped in a run batted in.
Puget Sound 7, Greenville 2
The Loggers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a Jessica Gott RBI double. Puget Sound then took control of the game in the third inning, scoring four runs, including three on a double by Jaci Young.
Greenville (5-5) got two runs back in the top of the fourth, but in the fifth inning, the Loggers scored two more runs to go up 7-2.
Jaci Young (3-2) earned the complete game victory for the Loggers. She gave up two runs in 7.0 innings, while striking out six.
Puget Sound 11, Eastern Connecticut State 6
Puget Sound jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Erica Gott, Jessica Gott, Amanda Fehr, and Mckenna Johnson all recorded RBI in the inning. ECSU (2-7) responded in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs of their own, but the Loggers got one of those runs back in the second inning when Erica Gott hit a home run.
In the bottom of the third inning, Eastern Connecticut State tied the game at 6-6. The Loggers retook the lead in the fifth inning, and then added two more in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Erica Gott (5-2) earned the complete game victory, her fourth complete game of the year. She allowed six runs (four earned), while striking out two in 7.0 innings.
The Loggers will next travel to George Fox to play a four-game series. The first game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 18.
