Loggers set to play four games against Bruins

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound softball team wraps up a busy Spring Break when they travel to George Fox for a four-game series this weekend. The Loggers will play a doubleheader against the Bruins on both Saturday and Sunday.

Puget Sound's last week

The Loggers (10-7, 3-3 NWC) traveled to Arizona for a five-game swing. The team went 4-1 during the week, taking down Wisconsin-Platteville, Suffolk, Greenville, and Eastern Connecticut State, while being edged by Augsburg.  Puget Sound scored 40 runs through the five games. Erica Gott earned two victories in the circle, while Jessica Gott, and Jaci Young each won a game as well.

Logger leaders

Jessica Gott leads the squad, and is third in the Northwest Conference, with a .491 batting average. The junior has seven doubles, a triple, and two home runs, while recording 18 runs batted in. Jenna Llamas (.319), Erica Gott (.315), and Haley Gray (.304) all hit above .300. Jessica Gott, Erica Gott, Haley Gray, Jaci Young, and Kaitlyn Webster have all hit home runs for the Loggers, while Young is second on the squad with 10 RBI. Jaci Young (3-2) has a 1.98 ERA in 35.1 innings pitched, Erica Gott (5-2) has a 2.94 earned run average in 47.2 IP, and Jessica Gott (2-2) has a 3.50 ERA in 20.0 innings.

Scouting the Bruins (8-6, 4-4 NWC)

George Fox University most recently took three out of four games against Pacific Lutheran. The team is hitting .271, led by Allison Meyer, who bats .407. Meyer, Alex Parker (.277), and Savannah Vargas (.220) have each hit two home runs for the Bruins. Parker leads the squad with 11 runs batted in. Madison Sorensen (5-2) has a 3.16 earned run average, throwing four complete games. She has struck out 31 in 44.1 innings. Abbie Bergerson is 2-4 with a 3.07 ERA and three complete games.

Student-Athlete of the Week

Jessica Gott earned the NWC Player of the Week for her play against Pacific. She hit .583 in the three games, including a three-run home run in extra innings which proved the difference in the first game of the series. Jaci Young was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing 12 scoreless innings, including a complete game shutout, to open the season.  

California Dreamin'

The Loggers opened the 2017 season with a six-game trip to Southern California. The team split double headers with Pomona-Pitzer, Chapman, and Occidental. Jessica Gott hit .421 over the six games, while Erica Gott finished the weekend hitting .389.
