Puget Sound's last weekend

The Loggers (10-14, 3-10 NWC) wrapped up their series against Willamette last weekend. The two teams picked up their suspended game in the eighth inning, tied 9-9. The Bearcats edged Puget Sound, 12-11, before sweeping the doubleheader, 6-4, and 9-2.  

Logger leaders

Jessica Gott leads the squad with a .385 batting average. The junior has eight doubles, a triple, and three home runs, while recording 19 runs batted in – good for fifth in the Northwest Conference. Jenna Llamas (.313), Haley Gray (.309), Amber Popovich (.311), and Kristi Nagamine (.302) all hit above .300. Jessica Gott, Erica Gott, Haley Gray, Jaci Young, and Kaitlyn Webster have all hit home runs for the Loggers, while Young is second on the squad with 16 RBI. Erica Gott (5-5) has a 4.34 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 58.0 innings. Jaci Young (3-5) has recorded 24 strikeouts in 56.0 innings pitched with a 3.25 earned run average.

Scouting the Pioneers (2-14, 2-10 NWC)

Lewis & Clark College most recently split a doubleheader against George Fox after being swept in four games against Whitworth. The team will play a doubleheader against Linfield on Monday evening before traveling to Tacoma for Tuesday's matchup. The Pioneers hit .236 as a team, led by Lindsay Yearman (.424), who also has the team's two home runs. Katelyn Duilio (.345), Kalin Rooney (.333), and Lisa Kumasaka (.316) also hit above .300. Kalin Rooney is 2-4 in the circle, throwing 48.0 innings and two complete games. She has a 2.04 earned run average, while striking out 21. Kaili Akimseu is 0-5, with a 5.52 ERA. She has struck out 21 in 33.0 innings pitched.

Student-Athlete of the Week

Jessica Gott earned the NWC Player of the Week for her play against Pacific. She hit .583 in the three games, including a three-run home run in extra innings which proved the difference in the first game of the series. Jaci Young was named the Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing 12 scoreless innings, including a complete game shutout, to open the season. 

Under the sun

The Loggers went 4-1 in Arizona during Spring Break, scoring 40 runs in five games. This was not the first time the Loggers had success in the hot weather this year. Puget Sound opened the 2017 season with a six-game trip to Southern California. The team split double headers with Pomona-Pitzer, Chapman, and Occidental.
