Loggers Survive At JD Shotwell Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. - Playing host to some of the top track and field athletes in the state of Washington, the Puget Sound Loggers survived a cold and wet Saturday at the JD Shotwell Invitational on Saturday at Baker Stadium in Tacoma, Wash.

In the meet that featured athletes from Puget Sound, Western Washington, Seattle Pacific, Central Washington, Pacific Lutheran, Lewis & Clark, Concordia-Moorhead, St. Martin's, Washington, Mt. Hood CC, Everett CC and Evergreen State, the Loggers held their own.

Senior Caitlin McGrane (Colville, Wash.) set a new season's best in the 800m run, taking third with a time of 2:22.33.  Junior Hayley Walker (Cambria, Calif./Coast Union) broke the five minute mark in the 1500m run, taking seventh with a time of 4:59.08, a season best for the Loggers.

On the men's side, sophomore Wiley Putnam (Seattle, Wash./Overlake) hit the Northwest Conference qualifying mark in the 400m dash, taking fifth with a time of 51.01.

Western Washington earned both of the team titles over GNAC-rivals Seattle Pacific on teh women's side and Central Washington on the men's side.  Puget Sound finished sixth in the women's team standings with 53 points and seventh in the men's standings with 34 points.

The Loggers will head down to Forest Grove, Ore. next Saturday for the Pacific Luau Invitational.
