PARKLAND, Wash. – Nine NWC qualifying marks were recorded at the PLU Invitational on Saturday. Marnie Hazlehurst took home a first-place finish in the 5000m run in addition to recording an NWC qualifying time.
The Logger women finished seventh of 13 teams at the meet with 30 points while the men also finished seventh with 50.25 points.
Hazlehurst's personal best time of 18:37.7 led the field of 15 runners and was 14 seconds faster than the nearest competitor. Carrie Keith also recorded an NWC qualifying time in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 12:05.80. Her time was the fastest for NCAA Division III runners in the event and placed second overall.
In the women's hammer throw, Maggie Klee moved up to second on the Loggers' all-time list with a toss of 130'4" and also recorded an NWC qualifying mark. Maggie Rowe's leap of 4'8.25" was the final NWC qualifying mark for the women's team.
On the men's side, Robin Harkins finished second and recorded an NWC qualifying time of 15:22.6 in the 5000m run. He was the top finisher of runners from NCAA Division III institutions. Matt Klein finished fifth with a personal best and NWC qualifying time of 15:46.9.
Emerson Sample's time of 59.1 in the 400m hurdles placed him fifth in the event and was an NWC qualifying time. Tony Charvoz also recorded an NWC qualifying mark in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:44.22.
Daniel Berendsen recorded another NWC qualifying time for the Loggers with a 6-foot mark in the high jump, placing fourth in the event.
At the Pacific Preview in Forest Grove, Ore., Joe Cerne is tied for ninth place after day one of decathlon events and Myles McDonald sits just behind in 11th.
