Multi-event athletes compete at Boxer Combined Event

FOREST GROVE, Ore.—Four Puget Sound multi-event specialists competed at the Boxer Combined event the last two days with Cameron Braithwaite leading the way for the Loggers at Lincoln Park Stadium in Forest Grove, Ore.

Braithwaite finished second with 5802 points in the men's decathlon after finishing in the upper half of nine events and among the top four in five events. He took second in the decathlon's long jump with a leap of 6.23 meters, his highest single-event finish of the meet. Joe Cerne also competed in the decathlon, finishing fifth with a total of 5707 points. Cerne was bolstered by a pair of top-two finishes in the discus and javelin throws.

In the women's heptathlon, Emily Sheldon finished seventh with a mark of 3425 points. Sheldon finished among the top 50% of all competitors in five events, and her highest finish came in the shot put where she tallied a mark of 8.27 meters to finish fifth in the event. Erin Stumbaugh also competed in the heptathlon, finishing 13th with 2745 points. Like Sheldon, her highest finish came in the shot put where she threw 7.88 meters. The mark earned her seventh in the event.

The entire Puget Sound track and field team will be back in action Saturday, March 15 when the team competes at the Saints Open in Gresham, Ore.
