TACOMA, Washington – Before pacing in front of the home bench in Memorial Fieldhouse, Puget Sound women's basketball first-year head coach Casey Kushiyama was at the helm of a U.S. women's team in Spain.
Kushiyama traveled abroad with several U.S. college student-athletes, June 3-13. The trip was made possible by Beyond Sports. Puget Sound is no stranger to Beyond Sports; Mikaela Limper '18 joined a U.S. team in Costa Rica during the summer of 2016. The year before that, Emily Sheldon '16 and Alexis Noren '17 both played in Costa Rica. During the summer of 2014, Amanda Forshay '15 played in Brazil.
"The basketball in Spain is very good," said Kushiyama. "The skill level of their players was breathtaking at times. They are elite shooters and very, very good passers. They play a beautiful style of basketball. I learned a lot, and I'm looking forward to implementing some aspects of their game to this year's Logger team."
Kushiyama's team played four games in Madrid, Valencia, and Barcelona. The team also spent a day touring Toledo.
