Solid Returning Group Set To Lead Loggers Into 2013 Season
The 2013 lacrosse season is nearly here. The Puget Sound Loggers will be looking to build on a strong end to the 2012 season. With four of the top-5 goal scorers returning in 2013, the Loggers will lean on a wealth of experience to guide them through a new season.
Julia Schulman will lead the experienced group on the attack as the Loggers leader in scoring in each of the last two years. Despite missing a few games due to injury, Schulman scored 40 goals as a junior to lead the squad in 2012. She scored a career-best 56 as a sophomore and needs just 35 goals as a senior to become the Loggers all-time scoring leader.
Fellow senior Grace Reid is also back on the attack for the Loggers after scoring 26 goals and dishing out a team-high six assists last year. Sophomore Caroline Cook had a huge freshman year with 38 goals and five assists and will look to play an even bigger role with a year of experience behind her. Sophomore Rachael Silva also returns in 2013 after scoring 17 goals as a freshman.
Jessica McDonald will also provide senior leadership in the midfield as she returns for her senior year. Reagan Guariello and Bradia Holmes bring some experience on defense. Guariello played in 13 of the Loggers 14 games last year and Holmes will return after missing all of last season due to an injury in the season-opener.
Senior Linnea Bostrom will return between the pipes for the Loggers. She turned away 195 shots last year and played the bulk of the minutes in goal. She stepped into the starting role last year as a junior and will look to be even stronger to finish out her career in 2013.
Some new faces to the team will also figure into the mix this year and vie for playing time over the first few weeks of the season.
The season kicks off on Sunday when the Loggers head to Linfield for a 1 p.m. matchup. Their home-opener will be Mar. 11 at 5:30 p.m. when they host Pacific on Lower Baker.
