Smith's four goals not enough as Loggers fall to Piedmont

TACOMA, Washington – Kerri Smith scored four goals, but the University of Puget Sound lacrosse team lost, 13-6, to Piedmont on Monday afternoon.

Kerri Smith recorded four goals, while also recovering three ground balls and controlling five draws. Meghan Bacher and Andriana Cunningham each scored one goal in the game for the Loggers (0-2).

The Lions (4-2) came out firing, scoring three goals in the first four minutes. However, the Loggers came back with goals by Bacher and Cunningham to decrease the deficit to one. Piedmont scored the next two goals, before Smith put away her first score of the day. The Lions led 6-3 at halftime.

Piedmont opened the scoring in the second half, going up 9-3. Smith scored three of the next four goals, including one on a free position shot, to pull the Loggers within four. The Lions then got three goals back, to go up 13-6, and ultimately earn the win.

Goalkeeper Leah Stromberg (0-2) made 11 saves. Elena Becker forced four turnovers.

Puget Sound will next open Northwest Conference play when they travel to Whitman on Saturday, March 5. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
