Phillips scores in loss to Poets

WHITTIER, California – Gracie Phillips scored as the University of Puget Sound lacrosse team fell, 20-1, to Whittier on Saturday afternoon.

Gracie Phillips scored the lone goal for the Loggers (1-7), while Kerri Smith led the team with five shots.

Whittier (6-4) led 15-0 at halftime, including two goals while a player up. The Poets scored five goals in the second half. The Loggers scored the last goal of the game, when Phillips put a free position shot into the net.

Goalkeeper Leah Stromberg (1-7) made eight saves. Smith led the Loggers with four groundballs, while Hailey Shoemaker recorded three. Smith had six draw controls and caused two turnovers.    

Puget Sound will next travel to Redlands on Sunday, March 20. The game is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
