NEWBERG, Oregon – Kerri Smith scored two goals, but the Puget Sound lacrosse team fell, 17-5, to George Fox on Saturday afternoon in the final game of the season.
Smith led the Loggers (2-12, 2-6 NWC) in goals scored, and also added two assists. The senior finished the season with 29 goals. Gracie Phillips, Roxanne Krietzman, and Izzy Amaya each chipped in one goal, while Callie Holgate recorded two assists on the day.
George Fox (9-5, 7-1 NWC) got on the board first, but the Loggers scored three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead. The Bruins scored the next seven goals to lead, 8-3, at halftime. George Fox continued its momentum in the second period, rattling off eight unanswered goals. The Loggers scored two out of the final three goals of the game, including a goal by Smith while a person down.
Goalkeeper Leah Stromberg (2-12) made nine saves. Hailey Shoemaker, Ali Walker, and Elena Becker each recorded four ground balls to lead the Loggers. Phillips and Holgate each had three draw controls, while Becker caused four turnovers.
