Women's soccer dominates first half on way to victory

TACOMA, Washington – The University of Puget Sound women's soccer defeated California Lutheran 1-0 on Friday afternoon in its home opener.

The Loggers (3-0) dominated the first half, outshooting Cal Lutheran (1-2) 11-2. In the 40th minute, Amalia Acorda-Fey put one of those shots in the net. The senior received a ball over the top from Liz Blonden and was able to put the ball low and past the keeper to give Puget Sound a 1-0 lead.

The second half was more even, with the Regals edging the Loggers 9-5 in shots. However, the Puget Sound defense would prove strong enough, and Acorda-Fey's goal would be the game winner.

The Loggers outshot the Regals over the game (16-11), while Cal Lutheran took more corner kicks (5-4). Acorda-Fey led the team with four shots, while goalkeeper Lauren Thomas (3-0) made two saves.

Puget Sound's next match will be Saturday, September 12, when they host Hamline at 1 p.m.
