Loggers begin NWC season at home against the Whits

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's soccer team aims to maintain positive momentum when it hosts the first Northwest Conference games of the year against Whitman and Whitworth this weekend.

Got to break free

After suffering three consecutive 1-0 losses, including two in extra time, the Loggers scored all of their goals in the second half of a 4-1 home triumph against Mary Hardin-Baylor (Sept. 8). Tayla MacPherson opened the scoring off a set piece in the 51st minute. Elizabeth McGraw, Genevieve Cheatham, and Gabbie Berg also scored for the Loggers.

 

How to save a shot

Jamie Lange, the reigning NWC Defensive Player of the Year, leads the NWC in saves with 38. She had a league-high 99 saves in 2017, and she's on pace for a whopping 190 stops in 2018.

 

Their Whits about them

Puget Sound went undefeated against Whitman and Whitworth last year, finishing with a 3-0-1 record against the teams from eastern Washington. The lone tie was a 2-2 final at Whitworth.

 

Scouting Whitman (0-3-1, 0-0 NWC)

Through four games this season the Blues have been outscored, 13-4. All four of Whitman's goals are by different players. The Blues' 2.97 GAA is last in the league, and they have allowed 41 shots on goal.

 

Scouting Whitworth (2-1-1, 0-0 NWC)

The Pirates' two wins this season both came in extra time against Franklin & Marshall and Carroll (Mont.). The Pirates play at Pacific Lutheran Saturday before battling the Loggers Sunday. Whitworth has scored four times through four games, and it has allowed eight goals through the same stretch.
