TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound women's tennis team makes its 2017 home debut on Friday, Feb. 17, in a Northwest Conference contest against Whitman at 3 p.m. Puget Sound continues its NWC slate at home against Linfield on Saturday at 1 p.m., and then hits the road for a 1 p.m. match at Pacific on Sunday. The Logger men compete at Linfield on Saturday, and then host Pacific on Sunday. Both of those matches are scheduled for 1 p.m.
Women's strong start to season
The Logger women beat the College of Idaho twice on Feb. 4 to open the spring season. Puget Sound won both matches by a 6-3 margin. Lisa Owen went undefeated on the day, winning two No. 1 singles matches and two No. 1 doubles matches. She was subsequently named the Logger Club Logger of the Week.
Men off to a slow start
The Logger men opened their 2017 at home on Feb. 11. Puget Sound lost to George Fox, 9-0.
Around the league
The Puget Sound women (2-0) are one of three undefeated NWC teams in the early going. Whitman (2-0) and Linfield (1-0) also have yet to lose. Pacific is an even 1-1, while George Fox, Willamette, Whitworth, and Pacific Lutheran are searching for their first win. Lewis & Clark has yet to play a match this spring.
Although the season is young, Whitman (3-2) is the only NWC men's tennis team with a winning record. George Fox is 3-3 in the early going, and Lewis & Clark is 1-0. Pacific Lutheran, Puget Sound, Willamette, and Whitworth are winless. Linfield makes its season debut this weekend.
