Trio of Loggers Earn Weekly Honors

SEATTLE, Wash. – Three Loggers were named the Northwest Conference Student-Athletes of the Week for their respective sports. Brynn Blickenstaff won the weekly award for volleyball while Theresa Henle was named the Offensive Player of the Week for for women’s soccer and Chris McDonald won the Defensive Player of the Week for men’s soccer.

Blickestaff, a junior from Eagle, Idaho, had 55 kills in four matches this week as the Loggers upset two nationally-ranked teams on Sunday. Blickenstaff had a weekend-high (and tied her season-high) with 20 kills in Loggers 3-1 win over No. 22 Trinity. She recorded double digits in kills in each match of the weekend.

Henle, a junior from Issaquah, Wash., scored three goals this weekend to help the Loggers remain unbeaten through their non-conference schedule. Henle scored her first goal of the season on Friday in a 2-1 Logger win over UCSC. She added two more on Sunday in the 3-3 tie against Claremont.

McDonald, a sophomore from Newton, Mass., posted two shutouts this weekend on back-to-back days to help the Loggers close out their non-conference schedule on a winning note. McDonald made seven saves on the week, including five in a double overtime scoreless tie on Saturday.

All three teams will begin the NWC portion of their schedules at home this weekend.

Christina Chun is in her second season in the maroon and white and seeing her playing time increase in the back row. In her first year at Puget Sound, Christina learned what it means to be a Logger. “Being a Logger means being an excellent all-around person. We can excel in sports and academics because of the great programs we have for both aspects.”
