Volleyball begins NWC schedule at home

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound volleyball team begins its Northwest Conference slate at home by hosting Linfield and George Fox in Memorial Fieldhouse this weekend.

Coming back from Cali

Puget Sound posted a 2-2 record in the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational last weekend, including a thrilling 3-2 win over Whittier after facing a 2-0 deficit. The Loggers also beat Pomona-Pitzer, but lost to Chapman and Cal Lutheran.

 

A test in rankings

Three of the Loggers' first six opponents this season were against teams that have been ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25: Millikin, Cal Lutheran, and Pacific Lutheran (non-conference).

 

Revving the engine

Through eight matches this season, Alli Revigilio leads the Loggers in both kills (63) and digs (74). She has two double-doubles to her name.

 

Fresh help

Two Puget Sound freshmen lead the Loggers in assists this season. Aliah Ayau has a team-high 115 assists, and Sarah Blumenfeld follows with 96.

 

Scouting Linfield (5-3, 0-0 NWC)

After winning their first four matches of the season, the Wildcats have lost three of their last four contests. Keliiheleua Anikalea (55) and Audrey Hyem (53) lead the team in kills. Taylor Souza has a team-high 119 digs, and Mattie Kelly has a 191 assists.

 

Scouting George Fox (6-2, 0-0 NWC)

Like Linfield, the Bruins won their first four matches of the season. However, like Puget Sound, George Fox is 2-2 in its last four contests. The Bruins take on Pacific the day before playing against the Loggers. Sophia Lawrence leads the NWC in digs per set (5.07). While attacking, George Fox has committed 177 errors, which ranks for the second most in the NWC.
