TACOMA, Washington – Despite facing a 2-1 deficit through three sets, the Puget Sound volleyball team battled back for a 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 23-25, 25-15, 17-15) win over George Fox in Memorial Fieldhouse Saturday evening.
After winning the first set, Puget Sound (4-5, 2-0 NWC) lost the following to sets to the Bruins (6-4, 0-2 NWC). The Loggers dominated the fourth set from the start, as a kill by Kristen Miguel gave the Loggers a 7-2 lead. Miguel's fourth kill of the set gave the Loggers a double-digit lead, 16-6, and Puget Sound stayed the course four a double-digit victory in the set.
The Loggers had their backs against the wall when George Fox claimed a 12-8 lead in the fifth and decisive set. However, the Bruins committed three errors during a 5-0 run that gave the Loggers a 13-12 lead.
George Fox held match point, 15-14, but after a Bruins error Miguel took care of the rest. Her 13th kill of the match tied the set. Shortly thereafter, Miguel hit the floor for a diving dig, popped back up, and then buried the game-winning point.
Miguel's 14 kills are a season-high for the senior. Melanie Siacotos added 11 kills, and Sarah Blumenfeld had 10. Blumenfeld also added 28 assists and 12 digs. Aliah Ayau totaled 19 assists and 18 digs for Puget Sound.
The Loggers finished with seven blocks to the Bruins' two. Puget Sound also hit .215 and limited George Fox to .180.
The Loggers are on the road for four consecutive matches, starting Wednesday, Sept. 19 at No. 10 Pacific Lutheran.
