Men's and women's tennis set for PLU, Whitman this weekend

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's and women's tennis teams are both at home – and on the road – this weekend. Saturday, April 2, the Logger women host Pacific Lutheran at 10 a.m., and the men compete at PLU. Sunday, April 3, the men host Whitman at 10 a.m., while the compete in Walla Wall against the Blues.

The Logger men clinched their first victory of 2022 against Linfield, 5-4 (March 20). Mike Smolskis had the most dramatic match of the day competing at No. 3 singles. He lost the first set, but evened things up in the second set. Smolskis then trailed by a couple games in the third set, but he rallied to win the set and seal the team victory.

The Logger women began the season with two wins, but they have since lost three consecutive games. This weekend marks the second time taking on the Lutes this year. Puget Sound crushed Pacific Lutheran in the season-opener, 7-2 (Feb. 11). The Loggers won each of the top five singles matches. Andie Machida, Avery Honaker, and Paige Schinall, Zoe Love, and Rachel Heinke won their respective singles matches in two sets.

In the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, the Whitman women are ranked No. 34 in the country.
