Tennis teams ready for final matches of 2022

TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound tennis teams have their final matches of the season this weekend. The Logger men host George Fox Friday, April 15, at 6 p.m. The women's team is on the road at Linfield (April 16) and George Fox (April 17).

With two wins this weekend, the Logger women (4-5) would clinch the program's first season with a winning record since 2014 (8-6). Puget Sound had an even .500 record in 2019 and 2018.

With a 9-0 win at Willamette Sunday (April 10), the Logger men won their third match of the season (3-6). That total matches the program's most wins since 2014 (3-13). With a win this Friday, the Logger men could clinch the program's most wins in a season since 2010 (5-12).

The rise of the men's program in 2022 has been led by several underclassmen. Freshman Trent Beckman has been playing No. 1 singles for a majority of the season, and he often pairs with freshman Noah Henderson at No. 1 doubles. Freshmen Brayden Sawyer and Will Church have been crucial this season – the recent example being their respective singles wins at Willamette (April 10).

Andie Machida is coming off a match in which she swept her counterpart in No. 1 singles at Willamette (April 10). Paige Shinall finished the same score (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 singles.
