Men's swimming take first place in Northwest Conference sprint meet

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Puget Sound men's and women's swim teams put on quite the performance Friday night at the Northwest Conference Relay event hosted by Lewis & Clark College. On the men's side, the Loggers captured all five relay events earning the top team spot with 200 points (with the second place team finishing at 164 points).

The women also performed well tying for first place, alongside Willamette, with wins in both the 3x100-yard butterfly and 3x100-yard medley relays.   

The event also featured mixed gendered relays with Puget Sound capturing the top spot in all three events. The Loggers finished first for the night's combined team score with 498 points, beating George Fox University with 418 points.  

On Saturday, the Loggers competed in the NWC Sprints event held at George Fox with the men's team again claiming first place overall. The team finished ahead of Linfield University with a 44-point difference. Leading the Loggers in the Pentathlon (combination of five events) was Lance Mielke with a total time of 2:38.55 followed closely by teammate Will Cabana with a time of 2:38.62. Six other Loggers placed in the top 15 of the combined races. The Pentathlon included the 100-IM, 50-butterfly, 50-backstroke, 50-breaststroke, and the 50-freestyle.

The women also continued with strong swims finishing behind Linfield for second place. Amy Madsen led the women's team with a combined event finish of third place with a time of 3:01.85 followed by Elinor Glass coming in at 3:03.52, and Maddy Brennan at 3:03.63. Both Annie Sullivan and Lara Franco also achieved a top 15 finish.  

The Loggers compete next at home against Lewis & Clark on Friday, Nov. 3.
