TACOMA, Wash. – The Puget Sound swimming team dominated in their first Northwest Conference home meet of the 2023-24 season, with a sweep of team wins against the Lewis & Clark Pioneers. The women's team emerged victorious with a score of 111-77, while the Logger men triumphed with a score of 123-65.
Notably, two first-year students highlighted the opening meet.
Will Cabana claimed first place in the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:07.93 and
Kass McLennan finishing first in the 100-yard freestyle.
The women's team captured a total of seven first place finishes.
Amy Madsen secured first place in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Other notable first place victories came from
Holly Zipay in the 50-yard freestyle,
Maddy Brennan in the 200-yard individual medley,
Elinor Glass in the 100-yard freestyle, and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Madsen, Glass, Brennan, and
Sara Guillen finishing nearly 10 seconds ahead of Lewis & Clark.
In addition to Cabana's win, the men ran away with both relay events, as well as wins by
Jonah Kembel in the 1000-yard freestyle,
Jaden Francis in the 200-yard individual medley,
Elijah Grinstead touching first in the 200-yard breaststroke event, and
Ethan Schwartz earning two first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke.
Puget Sound returns back to the pool on Saturday at 1:00 pm to race against Linfield.
