TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's and women's tennis teams host Whitworth Sunday, Feb. 26, for non-conference matches at 1 p.m. Men's and women's doubles and singles contests will occur simultaneously throughout Puget Sound's six courts in the Tennis Pavilion.

The Logger men began the 2023 season with a dominant 9-0 non-conferenc home win over Pacific Lutheran earlier this month (Feb. 8).

Mike Smolskis and
Rene Del Barco cruised to an 8-1 win at No. 1 doubles, whileÂ
Conor Blakeney and
Carson Ward the Lutes, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles. Smolskis also won at No. 1 doubles (7-5, 6-4), and Del Barco didn't drop a game at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-0).

Will Church was victorious at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-3),
Matthew Merzbach outlasted his counterpart at No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-0), andÂ
David Lybeck shutout PLU at No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-0). The Lutes forfeited No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

The Logger women began their season with a tough NAIA opponent in The College of Idaho, and the Coyotes came away with an 8-1 win the Tennis Pavilion (Feb. 19).

Freshman Chloe Ivy-Curwin earned the lone for the Loggers, and she did so in comeback fashion. Competing on the No. 4 singles court, Ivy-Curwin dropped the first set, 6-4. However, she battled back to win the next two, 6-1, 6-4.

The Whitworth men's tennis team is 0-6 this season, but it has gone against NCAA D-I programs Montana and Eastern Washington. The Pirate women are 0-3 – they also lost to The College of Idaho, 5-2.
