TACOMA, Washington – Puget Sound men's and women's crew begin their 2023 season Saturday, March 4, in the Pacific Lutheran Invitational on American Lake.

American Lake in Lakewood, Washington is also the training and home regatta site for the Loggers.

In addition to Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran, boats from Western Washington, Seattle University, and Seattle Pacific are competing in the PLU Invitational.

The Logger women are still finetuning their varsity-eight lineup under first-year head coach Dave Hammond. The PLU Invitational, and the following Logger Invitational (March 11), will guide Puget Sound's direction for the coveted Lamberth Cup (March 12).

Claudia Luthy is a key returner for Puget Sound after earning All-Northwest Conference in 2022.
Austyn Smith and
Lilly Steller also bring veteran leadership this spring.

The Logger men have been dominant in recent years. Last spring, Puget Sound won both the Rainier Cup and the Meyer Cup. It was the program's ninth consecutive Meyer Cup victory.

The men's varsity-four reached the grand finale during the 2022 Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships, where the Loggers placed fourth overall. Â
