Men's tennis dominates in first NWC match of season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TACOMA, Washington – The Puget Sound men's tennis opened its Northwest Conference slate with a big 9-0 win over Pacific Lutheran in the Tennis Pavilion Saturday. The Logger women lost their NWC opener against the Lutes, 5-2, at home.
 
Trent Beckman and Noah Henderson won the men's No. 1 doubles match, 8-2.  Will Church and Brayden Sawyer blanked PLU, 8-0, on the No. 2 doubles court.
 
Each singles victory for Puget Sound came in two sets. Mike Smolskis was on the No. 1 court (6-0, 6-1), and Carson Ward was the Loggers' No. 2 player (6-2, 6-1). Matthew Merzbach (6-0, 6-0) and David Lybeck (6-3, 6-0) won on the No. 3 and No. 4 courts, respectively. PLU defaulted on the final two singles matches.
 
In the women's contest, Paige Shinall and Marissa Perez teamed up to dominate at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Perez also won at No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-4).
 
The Loggers women compete Sunday, March 5, at Whitworth.
