TACOMA, Wash. – The men's swimming team came out on top, 111-94 in the dual meet against Whitman College on Saturday afternoon in Harvey Pool. The women's team succumbed to a 121.5-83.5 loss against Whitman.
In a display of synchronized excellence, the men's team emerged victorious in not one, but two relay events. Dominating the pool, they claimed the top spot in the 400-yard medley relay, clocking an impressive 3:36.40. Their triumph continued in the 400-yard freestyle medley, finishing with a remarkable time of 3:13.06. The women's team also showcased their exceptional talent clinching a victory in the 400-yard freestyle medley with a swift time of 3:45.78.
Will Cabana proved dominance in two categories, emerging triumphant in the 200-yard individual medley (IM) with a time of 2:01.14 and the 200-yard backstroke, where he claimed victory with an impressive time of 1:57.90. Emory Burden clinched victories in the 50-yard freestyle with a blazing time of 21.75 and continued to blow past Whitman with a first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.22.
At the beginning of the day, Alex Werth claimed an impressive third-place finish in the challenging 1,000-yard freestyle, completing the grueling race with a time of 10:52.86. Ethan Schwartz secured his second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.11 and coming in second again in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.49. In the closely contested 200-yard breaststroke, Elijah Grinstead exhibited exceptional technique, capturing first place with a time of 2:10.51. Lance Mielke also showcased his talent in the same event, sealing a second-place finish with a time of 2:13.51. Meanwhile, Josh Cunningham secured a commendable second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:03.17.
Among the exceptional female athletes, Maddy Brennan exhibited great versatility, dominating the 200-yard IM with a remarkable time of 2:15.33. She continued to amaze with another first-place finish in the challenging 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 2:16.47. Elinor Glass electrified the pool, achieving a remarkable tie for first place in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a swift time of 25.31. Glass continued her remarkable performance by securing another first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, completing the race in an impressive 54.78. Sara Guillen claimed victory in the grueling 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall at an impressive 5:26.08 and earning second place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:01.04. Amy Madsen finished in second place in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 56.05. Molly Clement secured a third-place finish in the demanding 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking in at 12:03.10.
The Loggers will be back at home, Jan. 19-20 to face George Fox on Friday at 6 p.m. and Willamette on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Aquatics Center.
