TACOMA, Wash. – Men's and women's swimming finishes their last regular season home meet with consecutive wins against Willamette university on Saturday afternoon. The Logger women completed the 22 event meet with a winning score of 118-77, while the men dominated with a 124-65 victory.
In Wallace Pool five seniors were honored today for their achievements at the University of Puget Sound,
Avery Gephart,
Elinor Glass,
Hannah Hamilton,
Elijah Grinstead, and
Ethan Schwartz. Glass and Schwartz both made first place finishes in the 50-freestyle (25.40) and 200-backstroke (1:58.54) respectively.
The Loggers started the meet strong with double wins in the 400-medley relay that opened the race. The men's team of
Will Cabana,
Lance Mielke,
Jonah Kembel, and
Emory Burden finished with a time of 3:29.01. The women's team followed with
Amy Madsen,
Elinor Glass,
Maddy Brennan, and
Holly Zipay earning first with a time of 4:07.14.
The Loggers saw its first win from
Josh Cunningham in the 200-free with a time of 1:50.06, with teammates following with wins in the 100-free from Burden finishing at 47.11 and the 500-free from
Cam Aaselund with a time of 5:12.92. The rest of the mens team stunned with three more wins in the 200-individual medley from Kembel (2:01.08), the 200-butterfly from
Jaden Francis (2:04.73), and the 200-breaststroke from Mielke (2:15.68).
The women's team saw double wins from Brennan in the 200-free and the 200-fly with times of 2:01.88 and 2:14.91, and
Sara Guillen in the 200-IM and 500-free with times of 2:19.74 and 5:28.70.
Madsen finished first in the 100-free swimming in at 55.22 and
Lara Franco impressed with a win in the 200-breast swimming in at 2:37.50.
The Loggers finished the domination with consecutive relay wins again in the 400-free relay Cabana, Aaselund, Cunningham, and Burden finished with a time of 3:14.46, then the women's team of Glass, Madsen,
Annie Sullivan, and Guillen pushed for an impressive time of 3:45.56.
The Loggers stay in town next week as they face Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. in Parkland.
