PARKLAND, Wash. — The Puget Sound swimming team defeats their intracity rivals the Pacific Lutheran University Lutes in the final dual of the season on Saturday afternoon in the PLU pool. The women's team won 121-100 and the men's team won by an even greater margin of 131-70.
The Logger men fell short in the first medley relay with a second place finish, but the women's team combines of
Amy Madsen,
Elinor Glass,
Maddy Brennan and
Holly Zipay quickly turned it around with a 0:00.13 of a second faster finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.52.
The men's team had seven first place finishes starting with
Alex Werth in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:51.42, then
Campbell Wencel took the gold in the 100-breaststroke finishing less than three seconds faster than his teammate 1:03.83.
Jaden Francis swam to first in the 200-butterfly with a close time of 2:01.19.
Lance Mielke finished first in the 200-breast with a time of 2:15.63.
Will Cabana stunned again in the 500-free stamping a time of 5:16.74.
Ethan Schwartz won the 100-free and
Jonah Kembel won the 100-butterfly.
The women's team marked five gold medals all in freestyle performances, Brennan led the Loggers with wins in the 50-free and the 200-individual medley.
Annie Sullivan stole the gold in the 200-freestyle swimming in at 2:04.86.
Sara Guillen took the 500-free with an impressive time of 5:27.38 and Glass finished first in the 100-free.
The Logger men's team finished with gold in the 200-freestyle relay with a team of Cabana, Schwartz,
Josh Cunningham, and Kembel. The women's team did the same with a tight win comprised of Madsen, Glass, Guillen, and Zipay.
The Loggers next adventure will be on Feb. 8 for the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
