Puget Sound Swimming Hosts Logger Invitational

| By:
TACOMA, Washington (November 21-24, 2024) - Over the course of this weekend, Logger Swimming hosted Whitworth University, Simon Fraser University, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Southwestern Oregon Community College, and Simpson University for their annual Logger Invitational. Across the six teams, the University of Puget Sound took fifth place, battling not only conference opponent Whitworth, but also West Region Division II opponents, Simon Fraser and Univ. Alaska Fairbanks, who took first and second in the meet, respectively. On the men's side of the action, only five teams competed, as Univ. Alaska Fairbanks only sports a women's program. The Loggers took third place, with Simon Fraser finishing first and Southwestern Oregon CC finishing second. The Logger men beat Whitworth by half a point, as Whitworth came in at 726 points, and the Loggers finished with 726.5.

Individually, Sam Lyon continues to shine for the Loggers. He won the Men's 100 Butterfly, with a time of 50.11 in the prelims and a finals time of 50.12, beating second place Whitworth Pirate Henry Brewster by .02 of a second. Fellow freshman Trinity Link is also on a hot streak, finishing second in the Women's 200 IM, with a finals time of 2:07.23. Both Link and Lyon were honored as All-NWC Student-Athletes of the Week in late October and continue to make cases for rookie of the year.

Brandon Tsang took second in the B Group finals of the Men's 590 Backstroke, finishing 10th overall, and Camille McClafferty finished 4th in the Women's 200 IM within the B Group, but also posted the second best 50-yard split time in her heat.

Logger Swimming is off this week for the Thanksgiving holiday, but will return to practice the following week and not race until January 17th, when they face off against George Fox at home.
