Four wins on day three of the Northwest Conference Swimming Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Elinor Glass, Lance Mielke, and Will Cabana stole the show earning gold in the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-backstroke on Saturday night at the Northwest Conference Swimming Championships. Amy Madsen, Glass, Maddy Brennan, and Sara Guillen took home gold in the women's 200-freestyle relay. 

Brennan broke the Puget Sound school record in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.76, outscoring Melissa Norrish's 2013 time of 57.13. Brennan placed second at the NWC Championships. Glass impressed with a win in the 100-breaststroke swimming in at 1:05.16. 

Sara Guillen took a second place finish in the 200-free with a swift time of 1:54.80 just .25 seconds behind a first place finish by Whitworth University.

Side-by-side, Mielke took first place and Elijah Grinstead took second in the 100-breaststroke with times of 56.11 and 56.96. 

Freshman WIll Cabana, junior Joshua Cunningham and senior Ethan Schwartz swam all together taking home the top three seeds respectively in the 100-backstroke with times of 50.74, 51.68, 51.81. Earlier in the day, Cabana broke his own school record in the preliminaries, scoring just .02 seconds in front of the his current record of 50.69. 

Cabana, Campbell Wencel, Schwartz, and Emory Burden all combined for a second place finish in the 200-free relay with a speedy time of 1:24.12. 

The Logger swimming teams head into the final day of the NWC Championships securing second place for the men with a score of 338 and the women holding third place with a score of 289. The action continues tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 11 at 9:30 a.m. with the 200-yard back preliminaries followed by the finals at 4 p.m. with senior recognition to follow.
