VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Freshman
Alex Rhodes became the first Puget Sound men's sprinter to earn Division-III All-America status by placing second in the 400-meter race at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. Rhodes crossed the finish line just .02 seconds behind winner Lance Jensen, a junior from SUNY – Genesco.
Rhodes had won his heat on Friday and had the top qualifying time going into the finals. Coming from lane five, Rhodes kept up with the fast pace throughout the race. In the final lap, Rhodes and Jensen gained separation from other racers with Jensen taking a slight lead. Rhodes' lean at the finish line almost earned the win but fell just short of the NCAa victory.
Rhodes raced to a personal best mark with a time of 46.97, improving his school record time set earlier in the season. Rhodes is now one of only six Logger All-Americans for NCAA indoor events.
