Logger women's crew claims Northwest Conference Championships

VANCOUVER, Wash. — For the first time since 2015, the Puget Sound Women's Crew team reclaimed the Northwest Conference Rowing Championship on Sunday, April 21, on Vancouver Lake.

The varsity 8+ boat jumped out ahead of the competitors and was able to hold steady throughout the 2,000-meter course to capture the win. The Loggers posted a time of 7:19.6 beating out Lewis & Clark College by more than 10 seconds. Pacific University took third while Pacific Lutheran University finished in fourth place.  

In the 2V8+ race, the pressure was on with the Loggers needing to finish second to secure the championship. The 2V8+ boat came through with an open water lead against PLU to take the second place spot. Lewis & Clark secured the win in the race, but Puget Sound's 22 point total for the combined races brought home the championship trophy.

Lewis & Clark finished the championship in second, with Pacific following in the third spot, and PLU in fourth place. 

Three Loggers earned All-Conference honors including Skylar Reynolds, Sydney Maysmith, and Becca Murphy.

In the afternoon's Northwest Invitational Regatta, the Loggers continued its strong performance on the day. Four Puget Sound crews raced, with three of those boats winning their respective races. The women's pair of Lily Steller and Maddie Johnson placed first with a time of 9:12, ahead of the University of Oregon and Lewis & Clark. 

Next up was the men's double, with Quincy Buickerood and Aidan Jurek winning the race with a time of 7:25, trailed by the Lewis & Clark and the University of Oregon pair and double.

The 4+ boats ended the regatta, with the varsity 4+ beating out Lewis & Clark and Pacific University in a time of 8:17. Taking the win was Skylar Reynolds, Amalina Lambert-Mullen, Claudia Luthy, Sydney Maysmith, and Austyn Smith. In the women's 2nd varsity/novice 4+ race, the boat of Fran Dadulla, McKenna Kalkbrenner, Kona Kamaka, Violet Baker, and Mariko Uemura placed third place with a time of 8:54 behind Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran. 

Puget Sound Rowing heads south for its final event of the regular season competing at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship in Gold River, California. The Loggers will be competing against schools from NCAA DII DIII, and club programs.
