TACOMA, Washington (January 17, 2025) -- The Loggers hosted the George Fox Bruins for their first dual meet of 2025. Both the men's and women's teams defeated the Bruins, with the men winning 207-55 and the women prevailing 145-115.
In a dominant performance, the Loggers took first place in 21 of 28 events.
Sam Lyon led the men's team, scoring 22 individual points by winning the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly, while also finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle behind his teammate
Emory Burden. Lyon and Burden were part of the victorious 200-yard medley relay team, alongside
Will Cabana and
Lance Mielke. Cabana contributed 13 individual points and another relay win, while Mielke earned 18 points, winning both the 50-yard and 100-yard breaststrokes. Another standout, Brandon Tsang, contributed to the second-place UPS 200-yard medley relay and scored 13 points, winning the 100-yard backstroke and finishing second in the 50-yard backstroke to Cabana.
On the women's side,
Trinity Link,
Harper McGuire, and
Lara Franco played key roles in the Loggers' success. Link claimed victory in the 50-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, and both the 200-yard medley and freestyle relays. McGuire contributed to both winning relays and added a win in the 200-yard freestyle, along with a third-place finish in the 50-yard backstroke. Franco was also a standout, earning placements in all three of her individual events: second in the 100-yard breaststroke, third in the 50-yard breaststroke, and fifth in the 400-yard IM.
The Loggers will be away next weekend, facing Linfield University at 6 p.m. Friday and Willamette University at 11 a.m. Saturday. Their next home meet, and final one of the regular season, is February 1 against rivals Pacific Lutheran University.
